Perception – or the perceptual world

How we perceive ourselves is not necessarily how others see us. A good leader understand the factors that influence an individual’s perceptual world. They can then conduct themselves in a manner that will positively influence peoples perception of them.

Process of Perception:

  • Stimuli from the environment
  • Select
  • Organise
  • Interpret
  • Respond (behaviour)

It is worth remembering that what we cant see we are prepared to make up and thus creating the perceptual world
Factors that influence an individuals perceptual world:

  • Motives
  • Goals
  • Past experiences
  • Social and cultural environment
  • Behaviour
  • Physical environment
  • Psychological characteristics
  • Needs
